Witch

Psychologically, the witch is a complex figure embodying both the threatening and the empowering aspects of disowned feminine wisdom. She often appears when a dreamer is encountering parts of the self that have been labeled dangerous, too much, or socially unacceptable: anger, raw intuition, sexuality, healing knowledge, or independence. A frightening witch may mirror internalized fears about your own power or memories of being shamed for being different. A wise or kind witch, by contrast, represents reclaimed authority, ancestral knowledge, and trust in your inner authority. Carl Jung connected the witch to the negative mother archetype but also to the alchemist, who transforms raw experience into medicine. Traditional folklore is filled with witches who curse, heal, fly, brew, and prophesy. The persecution of witches across many cultures left a deep collective shadow around women who held unconventional knowledge. Some indigenous traditions, by contrast, honored the medicine woman, midwife, and seer as essential community pillars rather than threats.

Contemporary culture has reclaimed the witch as a symbol of empowerment, ecology, and feminist solidarity. Modern dream analysis sees witch dreams as invitations to re-examine your relationship with intuition, the body, and natural cycles. They may also surface around anxieties about being judged for unconventional choices in lifestyle, beliefs, or identity.

Befriend the witch instead of fleeing her. Ask which of your gifts have been hidden out of fear of judgment, and consider what it would mean to practice them openly. Honor intuition, ritual, and embodied knowing as legitimate sources of guidance.
